Special Education at Sanders USD

  • Sanders Unified School District Special Education Department provides educational opportunities for all disabled students, ages 5–18. We aim to provide superior special education supports and services that meet the academic, physical, social, and emotional needs of all our students in special education.

Every student is educated to the maximum extent appropriate with their nondisabled peers. Special classes, separate schooling, or other removals of students with disabilities from the general education environment occurs only when the nature or severity of the disability warrants such services outside of the general education classroom. These decisions are made on an individualized basis, with input from the entire team, including the parent.

Letter from the ESS Director

  • Patrice Jones photo Dear Sanders Unified School District Families,

As part of our commitment to support students with disabilities, the district is committed to ensuring that our students are receiving appropriate supports through modifications and accommodations of all the general education lessons that are being sent home to families.

As we are all aware, the Coronavirus has shaken the planet to its core! This pandemic has presented unprecedented challenges and concerns! Keeping students’ health and safety is at the forefront, the Special education department is assisting the District with its responsibility to ensure that students with disabilities have access to the same educational opportunities as the general student population during school closures.

To ensure families are receiving additional supports from our related school personnel such as occupational therapy, speech therapy, and physical therapy, the district has required that packets for parents to assist students during this crisis be sent home to families, as well as videos which are on this web page, is accessible to families.

We will continue to hold IEP Meetings as well as Evaluation Meetings during the closure.  All meetings will be held via the phone from your homes to maintain safety for all.

In the event you require additional assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the ESS office directly at (855) 678-7873, extension 4713.
